Workplace Challenge:

Managing the changing & diverse landscape of today’s teams to build high performing and high trust cultures grounded in effective communication and successful collaboration.

Adelante Offers:

Team and partnership coaching and assessment-based team learning and development solutions.

Strengths-based Team Coaching

Strengths-based development is an approach that helps team members identify how they can purposely aim their talents so that the team is better equipped to accomplish its goals and performance objectives and respond to everyday situations. Using Gallup’s CliftonStrengths assessment, adelante provides half-day, full-day, and follow-up team strengths development learning sessions. Team sessions are designed to help team members name and claim their own strengths, better understand and appreciate the strengths of each colleague, and collectively explore how to best leverage the strengths of the team. Team members work more productively together and are more successful at reaching their goals when they know and value their colleagues’ strengths and how to partner effectively together.

Strengths-based Partnership Coaching

The relationship between every two people on a team, impact the team as a whole. Adelante offers partnership coaching to provide any two individual team members (including the team leader) a safe and productive opportunity to understand each other better and redesign how they are working together. Using Gallup’s CliftonStrengths assessment, team members move from judging to understanding to valuing each other in highly productive ways. By building trust, the partnership between team members become truly collaborative, and the team as a whole becomes more highly functioning as a result.

Teaming with Trust Learning Experience

According to Stephen M.R. Covey, author of The Speed of Trust, “Contrary to what most people believe, trust is not some soft, illusive quality that you either have or you don’t; rather, trust is a pragmatic, tangible, actionable asset that you can create – much faster than you probably think possible.” If your team is losing valuable time on interpersonal and relationship issues stemming from or causing lack of trust within its members, adelante can customize design a powerful team learning experience to help get your team back on the track moving towards wholeness and high performance. Custom half-day and full day facilitated trust-building sessions are co-designed with team and team leader input.

It teaches participants to understand themselves and others, while learning to appreciate the different priorities, preferences, and values each individual brings to the workplace. With personalized insights and actionable strategies, participants learn how to adapt to the style of others, ultimately improving engagement, collaboration, and the overall quality of the workplace.

Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict Team Learning Experience

Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict is a classroom training and personalized learning experience that increases self-awareness around conflict behaviors and helps participants effectively respond to the uncomfortable and unavoidable challenges of workplace conflict. Rather than focus on a step-by-step process for conflict resolution, it offers personalized techniques to curb destructive behaviors so that conflict can become more productive, ultimately improving workplace relationships and results.

Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team Learning Experience

For intact teams and work groups looking for a powerful tool to dramatically increase cohesion and effectiveness, adelante offers The 5 Behaviors of a Cohesive Team, a comprehensive learning and development program based on Patrick Lencioni’s best-selling leadership fable, The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team. This program includes an online assessment and facilitated team conversations on how they trust one another, engage in conflict around ideas, commit to decisions, hold one another accountable, and achieve collective results.

Developing a Team Charter

Also known as team agreements, expectations, or norms, a team charter is something every productive and healthy team should have. adelante provides facilitated workshops where team members collaboratively and authentically develop the expectations and norms they want to see their team follow. In turn, this clarity and intentionality supports a positive organizational culture by ensuring that employees know how to work best together. Sometimes this process includes training on topics like communication, conflict resolution, and can be integrated into many of the learning experiences mentioned above.

What the Research Says:

• The shift from hierarchies to cross-functional teams is well underway. Data shows that adopting team structures improves organizational performance for those that have made the journey; organizations that have not risk falling further behind.

• 65% of respondents viewed the shift from “functional hierarchy to team-centric and network-based organizational models” as important or very important—but only 7 percent of respondents felt very ready to execute this shift, and only 6 percent rated themselves very effective at managing cross-functional teams.

• We cannot assume assembling a group of highly skilled individuals will result in an expert team. In addition to being technically able to perform their assignments, team members must also demonstrate teamwork competencies and leader capabilities, and the team as a whole must engage in effective interpersonal and team processing. To achieve these aims, teams should participate in psychologically sound, evidence-based Team Development Interventions as ample evidence exists highlighting that when designed and implemented properly, they can boost a team’s capabilities and performance.

Team Development Interventions: Evidence-Based Approaches for Improving Teamwork (American Psychological Association)

• The definition of “team” used to be fairly straightforward. Teams simply consisted of managers and their direct reports, and employees worked primarily with people on one team. Many organizations still adhere to this structure today, but others have adopted less rigid structures. In whole or in part, organizations are increasingly moving away from traditional hierarchical models and toward “matrixed” environments in which employees work across multiple teams and with team members who may report to different managers.

• Gallup’s study of cross-functional teams reveals that 84% of employees are “matrixed” to some degree, meaning they may work on multiple teams, reporting to the same or different managers than those whom they work with.
